What does the Grade Calculator compute?
It tells you the score you need on your final exam to finish a course with a chosen overall grade. You enter your Current grade, the Final exam weight as a percent, and your Desired final grade, and it returns the exact required exam percentage.
What formula does it use?
It rearranges the weighted-average formula: required score equals desired grade minus current grade times the non-final portion, all divided by the final's weight. For example a current grade of 85, a final worth 30 percent, and a target of 90 gives (90 - 85 x 0.70) / 0.30 = 101.7 percent.
Can you give a worked example?
Current grade 80, final worth 40 percent, desired final grade 85. The required score is (85 - 80 x 0.60) / 0.40 = 92.5 percent. Aim for at least 93 percent on the final to land an 85.
What if the required score is above 100 percent?
That means the target is mathematically impossible, and the calculator tells you plainly instead of showing a fake number. Lower your target grade or confirm that the current grade and exam weight are entered correctly, then run it again.
